In January 2017 I weighed almost 300lbs, I was going to see my doctor often due to chronic pain, severe bursitis and plantar fasciitis. I could hardly climb a single flight of stairs and was terrified of visiting a gym. I have a picture of myself at a friends wedding that summer and could not believe that this was me. I was even unable to go on some rides at an amusement park due to my weight. To say I was down on myself is an understatement.
I decided that enough was enough and signed up for a friends 8 week weight-loss challenge. Little did I know I was embarking on something that would completely change my life.
During those 8 weeks I lost 28lbs and 32 inches!
What I could never have expected was what came after. I realized that I did not want this to all fall apart after the challenge, like what happens with so many fad diets. So I got to work, reading everything I could and teaching myself all about healthy, active, non-restrictive living.
Fast forward to 1 year later; I was standing on a podium winning 1st place in a transformation challenge with Serious About Fitness (SAF). I will never forget telling the judges my story and crying in front of a whole theatre of people. What I did not know is there was not a dry eye in the whole place.
I have lost a total of 146lbs and kept it off for over 5 years now by living the same programs I teach my clients. Gone are my aches and pains from before. I went from being completely out of breath climbing a single flight of stairs to running in multiple half marathon races.
I quickly realized that other people wanted to know how I lost the weight, but also how I keep it off. People started using the term inspirational when they described me. I started a blog and social media to document my journey share all of the successes, and failures that I had along the way.
From there I began sharing my knowledge and passion with some of those close to me. As they began to have success, share their success and continue with their journeys, I found a passion.
I have seen many people (over 100 clients) who have all had success with their own personal goals. In my most recent group challenge the average person lost almost 20lbs over 8 weeks. What is more remarkable is that these people leave with the skills to continue to crush their goals and live the same lifestyle I do.
I have reached new heights with my passion and education having become a certified personal trainer and fitness instructor. This allows me to bring a new level of programming to my clients. I focus on progressive overload, challenging limits and safe completion of exercise programs.
